In celebration of the 50th anniversary of independence from Portuguese colonization this year. This release is wrapped in a fable taught in primary schools on the Cabo Verde islands about an ox called Blimund, known for his free spirit. This call for freedom can be heard in the melodies and drums that shape the track by Kems Kriol, along with remixes produced by Rahsaan Nova, Samwho, and Najel Monteiro. All very different, yet undeniably outstandingjust like the people of Cabo Verde are known to be. Our Various Waves series is under the exploratory theme of genre-bending gems and this second edition is no different. We welcome 3 artists and a duo for 4 tracks that develop complete different visions. We open the release with a sharp deep dubstep from RM Estali, follow with a bubbly dub house with Malwen, continue with a dub techno tunnel from KRV and finish with some ambient drum & bass for Piante Vive. Introducing Bobblesaus, the latest project from Dutch producers Styn & DJ Rtje. A 7-track project built for the club, Bobblesaus is packed with hypnotic, high-energy rhythms primed for dancefloors. We used old-school drum kits from the 2000s and built on that energy without over-processing. Tracks like Laila draw from Surinamese brass band and kawina music, while others take inspiration from jungle and grime. Bubbling first emerged in the early 90s when DJ Moortje sped up dancehall riddims at Rotterdam parties, creating a faster, percussion-heavy style that quickly became a movement. DJs like Chuckie and later De Schuurman, DJ Naffie, DJ Tamer, and DJ Soundkiller pushed it further, blending Caribbean rhythms with stripped-back electronic beats. Now, Bobblesaus carries that legacy forward, staying true to bubblings DIY spirit while introducing new layers and textures. Recorded with minimal processing to keep its unfiltered energy intact, Bobblesaus captures the spirit of early Dutch club scenes and is a fresh evolution of one of the most dynamic club styles ever created.
My previous eps released on YUKU were always focused on a specific tempo range and produced in a specific time with a specific sound imprint in my mind. This one instead took its shape during the last 2 years, goes back to the early COIDO days till the nowadays COIDO and covers all the bpms and styles I like to make. 136 BPM_Gruzz was my very first collaboration and it happened to be with the amazing TRAKA bois after releasing my very first ep. 145BPM_Time Tripper was produced shortly after that, the inspiration for it came after listening back to some jump up dnb classics but then it randomly turned out into a old school rave tune. 150BPM_Chapalo went through many changes during the last year. Born as a baile funk tune it then got revisited a few times, and finally right before finding a release day I managed to find a final form I was happy with. 160BPM_Final Reason its part of my most recent idea of 160bpm. Its a 70\%\% dnb and 30\%\% techno mixture with a dose of nostalgia taken from my former name.
Demilitarize follows Nazars remarkable 2020 debut Guerrilla, which reprocessed Angolan kuduro music with rough textures, field recordings and media clips, telling a personal story of the civil war that exiled his family to Europe, while his father, a rebel General, fought a losing battle in the jungle back home. After Guerrilla, and an extended period of serious illness, now Demilitarize is motivated by a reckoning with mortality and the flowering of new love, turning the rough kuduro of Guerrilla inside out. This is a deep sound world, genuinely dreamy, the arc of the album describing shedding the armour of trauma and surrendering to this new situation. A constant and unexpected aspect of Demilitarize is Nazars gentle, submerged vocal. Insistent and mantra-like, its like a cross between Elisabeth Frazer, Arthur Russell and Frank Ocean, and the music is fragile and opaque in response. The rhythms of kuduro are still here, but move around his voice like fish around a swimmer, while precise sound design illuminates from different angles. Chords spiral, ripple and shoot through the beats giving tracks the loosest of settings; songs disassemble; vocals float off-centre.
CoOp Presents kicks off 2025 with the launch of a brand-new one-shots release series; each track is a statement in its own right. First up, NameBrandSound & Nuff Pedals join forces for Pedal & Wheel - a heavyweight collaboration that bridges the London and Bristol bruk scenes. NameBrandSound is the brainchild of CoOp Presents label heads Alex Phountzi & IG Culture; two pioneers of the bruk movement whove been shaping the sound for decades under various aliases. With a deep legacy in the scene, the duo also hold down a must-listen weekly show on Rinse FM. Nuff Pedals (aka Will Knighton), also known for his work as Dismantle, brings his signature touch to the mix. Hailing from Bristol, hes worked with D&B heavyweights DJ Die and Watch The Ride, earning support from tastemakers like Benji B, Gilles Peterson, Madam X, Lefto, and Martyn. This 125-BPM bubbler has been a CoOp Presents DJ set essential, laced with a sublime bassline and emotive synths that make it an instant standout. Dropping on all DSPs, April 11th 2025.
After the release of drns etheral numerator 2x12 vinyl, we return once more to the title track with a set of fresh remixes presented on a very limited edition (100) 7 inch white vinyl release. For side A, we have a deep and resonant remix by LAs Maude Vos, known for their experimental music, found sound production and atonal rhythms. On side B, Science Cult co-owner Syrte gives his take on numerator with a hard hitting and fast IDM tinged remix.
Claustrophobic, disorienting, uncomfortable - Only Time Will Tell consists of 3 of my latest attempts to push functional club tools as far into the realms of dissonance and abstraction as possible whilst retaining their inherent purpose as body-moving dancefloor tracks. Im drawn to sounds that are insistent, deliberate, futuristic and unorthodox. YUKU have always shared a similar vision, so it was little surprise when the label picked the very first 3 tracks I sent over in a large vault of demos - the exact 3 that I quietly hoped that they would take, in the exact order I felt would be most effective. Inertia Of The Real has been the closing track for many of my sets over the past few months - unhinged electrical zaps appear out of nowhere and rain down over a sparse grime rhythm to catch the crowd off-guard and cause as much chaos as possible. Plated Brass Recursion Mechanism continues the theme of frantic digital laser assault, but this time with a locked breakbeat groove and unyielding low-end snarl - more conventional beat patterns for electro and techno lovers, but weird and unpredcitable nonetheless. Lastly, Fools Errand dials back the intensity just a touch, with eerie pads and disembodied vocal chops cutting through machine-gun hihats and start-stop call and response in the low end. My attitude to production has always been a rejection of the nostalgic rehashing of sounds from the 90s and 00s that has come to dominate the dance music landscape in the current decade. If there isnt at least one sound in a track thats surprising or new to my ears, Im not interested. As a statement of intent, I hope that Only Time Will Tell will bring something exciting to the listener in that respect. Obtuse Swamps second ecosystem Hadal Biocenosis is the result of two years of sonic exploration by Leipzig-based artist Kontinum. Moving from conventional techno to a more bass-oriented sound, he left his comfort zone and experimented with unusual grooves and textures for this release. The EP is rounded off by two remixes from french dub expert Son du Maquis and fellow Leipzig producer Esgeem. Folding the ambient techno tradition into neatly arranged packets of rhythm and space, Delsin proudly presents a striking new collaboration from Tobias. and Doltz. A project developed from a chance encounter, Versus combines classic synth and drum machine configurations with needlepoint sound design to create a quintessential electronica listening experience. Tobias. is the lead alias from Tobias Freund, the celebrated German techno pioneer who has been actively exploring new territories in electronic music production since the early 1980s. As Doltz, Shun Watanabe has quickly developed his own impressive artistic stamp in the field of leftfield techno and ambient since debuting in 2020. After seeing Doltz perform a live set at Eden Festival 2024 in Japan, Freund instantly invited him to collaborate. After the success of the first collaboration, they went on to develop five of the tracks on Versus together, while Jiawen Wang performed additional vocals on We Are Not Alone. Versus is an album that balances variety and consistency across its finely sequenced run time, maintaining a focus on pointillist, exploratory rhythm from crisp drum machines and twitchy digitalia alike, all backed up by richly rendered atmospherics from gaseous pads to icy drones. Its a warm and inviting sound world, but also fearlessly futuristic, speaking to both Freunds decades of refinement and the startling clarity of Doltzs vision.
