During the 35 years of making music, Dave Lee has constantly been searching for new singers and writers to work with. A search thats ended up with many fantastic collaborations and releases with the likes of Thelma Houston, Taka Boom, Dianne Charlemagne and Seal. More recently this quest led him to Maurissa Rose and the creation of their album London / Detroit. After hearing Maurissas voice on a Theo Parrish record Dave reached out to her and after a few long phone conversations and mp3 swaps, they both agreed a visit to London would be much more fun than trying to work together remotely. Maurissa made the journey from her home in Detroit to write and record an album with Dave at his studio in March 2022 - as they both feel that creating music together in the same room is always better. The fruits of their labour yielded 11 brand new songs (and 1 cover) tapping into their collective love of Soul, Disco and R&B, with a sprinkle of Soulful House. This album is a special one for Dave Lee as its the first time in his career hes recorded an entire album with the same singer on every track. In the albums liner notes Dave talks of how Maurissa is a naturally creative person, full of ideas, warm & unpretentious which is reflected in her vocal performances throughout London / Detroit. Daves expertly crafted music is backed up with a deeply passionate yet effortless delivery from the Detroiter, a marker of someone who has honed and perfected their art. When it comes to the music side of this LP, Dave Lee is once again proving hes still at the top of his game and shows no sign of relenting. Drawing from his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Soul/Funk/Disco, we are treated to a range of styles, BPMs and influences from 95bpm street soul to more uptempo disco and boogie flavours. Be it the rippling synth voyage opener of You Decide, taking the Johnnie Taylor classic What About My Love into a modern Boogie realm, upping the tempo on the soulful houser I Feel the Sun or bringing the tempo back down to the bassy acidic chug of Youre Giving Me Life. Mr Lee is truly adept at creating a modern disco soul sound without the usage of samples. London and Detroit might be two very different cities on opposite sides of the Atlantic but this album is proof that creative synergy knows no distance.
Embracing Afro house influences while retaining the disco soul at its core, Afro Disco is the latest dance floor banger from French disco house band Les Bisous. With ample flair and a great ethnic vocal, this track will be the star of the party.
Hypernatural exists in some liminal space between waking life and dreamstate, it makes sense that its remixes should play with perspective. The trio-Dan Whitford (Cut Copy), Mirko Vogel, and Mike Gamwell (a.k.a. Knightlife)-crafted their album between the Swedish coast and the Scottish highlands, capturing the sublime and the surreal in equal measure. Now, its time to hand things over to new guides. Mike Gamwell himself steps up, delivering a fresh take that bends and stretches time, while Gerd Janson follows, offering another piece for the puzzle-one that slots seamlessly into the hazy, transportive nature of the Hypernatural sound.
Mark Farina and Homero Espinosa return with a swaggy, funky remix of Soul Science! Whether youre catching the day vibes, turning up the night vibes, or keeping the morning vibes alive, this remix delivers on every level. Already crushing dancefloors everywhere, this is an absolute must-hear for house music lovers. Dont miss out—Soul Science (Frisco Disco Remix) is out now and available everywhere!
Meet Lengs latest signings, Liminal – a Danish duo comprised of guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and producer David Rosenkilde, and DJ, producer and sound engineer Morten Troest. The pair first met when Rosenkilde was booked to perform as a session musician at Troest studio. They clicked immediately so with Troests studio skills and inherent knowledge of what works on dancefloors paired with Rosenkildes abilities as a musician they decided to produce their own music together working to one simple rule: try out every idea, however outlandish! Since then, Rosenkilde and Troest have been recording their debut album thats set for release on Leng later in 2025. First, though, we get a taste of their talents via Keep Coming Back To Me, an impressive debut single that blends electric and electronic instrumentation while keeping its focus fixed on the dancefloor. Ushered in by shakers, rubbery bass and flanged guitar licks, Keep Coming Back To Me giddily blurs the boundaries between colourful nu-disco, low-slung dub disco and the sun-splashed beauty of the more club-friendly end of the Balearic spectrum. It boasts a hazy, multi-tracked and lightly glassy-eyed lead vocal, as well as a nagging TB-303 acid line that works its way to the fore as the track progresses, adding extra layers of excitement and energy as it unfolds. Remixer Ray Mang (AKA long-time friend of the label Raj Gupta) takes the latter element as his inspiration on a stunning, nine-minute plus remix that brilliantly re-frames the track as a blend of tactile 21st century nu-disco colour, hypnotic proto-house and analogue-rich, acid-fired Chicago jack. Re-playing the bassline in an early Chicago house style and reaching for lo-fi and spacey synth sounds, the veteran British producer frequently strips the track back to the groove before re-introducing the vocal and the dreamiest of chords. Liminal also display their sonic diversity on bonus cut The Moon Is Changing, a wonderfully atmospheric and star-lit affair in which spacey ambient chords, twinkling electric piano keys and intergalactic electronics slowly usher in a mid-tempo Norse nu-disco groove. The pair build slowly, adding vocals and layered guitar licks. The results are hard to pigeonhole but thoroughly impressive, offering a tantalising glimpse of whats to come on their must-check debut album.
