Nzagi returns to Piston Recordings with the fantastic Lollipops EP. Nzagi is an Angolan-Portuguese DJ and producer known for his soulful, groove-driven deep house sound. With roots in the electronic music scene dating back to the mid-1990s, he began DJing in 1995 and later honed his production skills through formal studies at Academia – Escola de Audio. Drawing inspiration from jazz, funk, and classic house, his music blends rich percussion, smooth basslines, and atmospheric textures. He drew widespread acclaim for his Got The Blues EP on the label which showcased his knack for warm, emotive grooves. Constantly evolving, he continues to deliver quality deep house cuts that resonate on both the dancefloor and in introspective listening spaces. The Original Mix of Lollipops gets us underway, carrying a delicate yet grounded sound, anchored by thick kick drums and fluid, rhythmic percussion. Crisp hi-hats add a refined edge, while soft piano glissandos glide gracefully over a bed of warm chords and subtle bass tones. The atmosphere is smooth and inviting, striking a perfect balance between groove and emotion, top-notch. Miguel Palhares returns with his trademark blend of deep, funky, and jackin house with a solid remix of Lollipops. A staple of Portugals club scene since age 19, hes been releasing on top labels since 2013 and remains a key figure in the Piston Recordings family. On the remix here, Miguel blends delicate, soulful elements with an infectious club vibe. Punchy kicks and a thick bassline drive the groove, while disco strings and groovy saxophones add vibrant energy. Crisp hi-hats and percussion keep the rhythm tight, with cool vocal shots and a spoken narrative adding depth. Soft piano glissandos and warm chords create a smooth, emotive layer, balancing dancefloor heat with subtle sophistication. Anunnaki concludes the release, opening with an intriguing spoken vocal, plucky basslines and chunky kicks over hypnotic pads and an infectious chord sequence. Shuffling hi-hats and playful percussion add rhythmic momentum, while moody tones weave through the mix, creating a captivating and immersive atmosphere.
