#61 Feat. Staff Picks in Electronica

Keep your friends close, Bas Dobbelaer must have thought when he asked a few gifted producers to remix his recent ambient work. Five tracks from his beautiful and intimate Binding Elements-album (2023) were pushed in new directions by befriended producers and colleagues such as Moon Patrol, Will Oirson and Leif. The latter turns Submerge into a melodic minimalist piece which pays homage to both Susumo Yokota and Steve Reich. Swiss-born producer Ben Kaczor goes 4x4 on Irregular, pushing the dreamy original towards Giegling territory in a good and meditative way. Dwaalgast extrapolates the dub elements in the title track Binding Elements while Brooklyn duo Moon Patrol takes things even deeper on their bass heavy remix of Rise. Closing track Ray gets a wonderful sun-bleached ambient treatment by the talented Will Oirson. All five remixes breathe new life in the original versions while retaining their unique magic. Thats what friends are for.
